Slow Down when driving.
Yield to people walking.
Speed-related traffic fatalities and serious injuries occur nearly every day in Philadelphia, devastating families and communities. It is unacceptable and preventable. Speeding is illegal for a reason…it puts everyone on the road in danger, including pedestrians. Please contribute to road safety by obeying the speed limit every time you drive. And remind your family and neighbors to do the same. Let’s get to zero traffic deaths in Philadelphia.
I pledge to slow down, focus on driving, and put my phone away while behind the wheel.

Speed kills.
A person walking who is struck by a person driving at 20 mph will most likely survive.
At 40 mph, the person will most likely die.
When you’re in the driver’s seat, you’re responsible for the safety of the people in your vehicle and on the street. That means expecting the unexpected and watching out for pedestrians every moment you’re on the road. Pay attention when you approach crosswalks, stay alert in hard-to-see conditions, and slow down to keep the streets safer for all. Traffic safety is everyone’s responsibility.
Use safer transportation options, such as walking, biking or taking transit, whenever possible.

Walking, biking, and taking transit are healthy, active, and enjoyable ways to travel!
Riding transit is 10 times safer than riding in a motor vehicle. In fact, cities where more people walk, bike and take transit tend to have lower rates of fatalities from crashes. Philadelphia has lots of options for people to travel to their destination. In addition to being one of the most walkable cities in the country, the City’s bikeshare system Indego continues to expand, offering both classic and electric bikes. SEPTA is improving the transit network with upgrades that make taking transit more convenient and reliable.
I pledge to bike predictably and stop at signals.

Be Seen, Be Safe
In Philadelphia, bicycles are considered legal vehicles sharing the same the rights and responsibilities as motor vehicles. Therefore, bike riders need to observe the rules of the road to ensure safety. Vison Zero Philadelphia reminds riders to always ride with the traffic flow, bike in designated bike or vehicle lanes, use hand signals and follow all road signs, signals and markings. When riders and motorists work together, the goal of zero traffic deaths is achievable.
